Paintings That Jump-Start Your Brain!

"Bulldawg Creative is a world that bleeds creativity. I have been using this world to sidestep everyday life and tap into the mind’s untainted frontier. Many of my paintings start with impulsive ideas and evolve into complex imagery. Sometimes a dream, song or dramatic image triggers my inspiration. Bulldawg Creative is about in-your-face art! Art that challenges the way we were taught to think and behave. Art that hits you in the face like an iron skillet. Art that provokes emotion and response. Art that twists reality and creates distorted imagery. Art that chews you up, spits you out and asks for more." -Adam Carnes, Sarasota Artist

Surrealism Paintings and other Sarasota Art

Realism, Photorealism (Photo Realism), Surrealism and Representational Art

“Ever since I caught my first glimpse of a realistic painting I was hooked. Never looking back, I have blindly set my course, opened the throttle and accelerated at full speed.

I prefer to call myself an artist or painter and try to stay away from classification, but the constant question arises... “What kind of artwork do you do?”. To sort of answer the question, many of the artists that I study fall into the Realism genres: Realism, Surrealism, Photorealism (Photo Realism), Representational Art and... did I mention REALISM? Part of my resistance to classify is, because I am influenced by so many different art forms. Focusing in these genres has given me the tools to pursue whatever art form I choose. Abstract images, sculptures, and paintings have always caught my attention and inspired me. Ironically, when you are rendering a realistic painting, you must first abstract the form to fully give the illusion of Realism.

Lately, I have been looking at a lot of Surrealism paintings. Salvador Dali (Leader of the Surrealism Movement) was one of the first artist to really inspire me. No shocker due to my infatuation with distorted and twisted imagery.” -Adam Carnes, Sarasota Artist

Surrealism

Surrealism a 20th-century avant-garde movement in art and literature that sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images.” -Dictionary on my Mac

Surrealism was above all a revolutionary movement.
Surrealism developed out of the Dada activities of World War I and the most important center of the movement was Paris. From the 1920s on, the movement spread around the globe, eventually affecting the visual arts, literature, film, and music of many countries and languages, as well as political thought and practice, philosophy and social theory.” -Wikipedia

Realism

Realism in the visual arts and literature is the depiction of subjects as they appear in everyday life, without embellishment or interpretation. The term also describes works of art which, in revealing a truth, may emphasize the ugly or sordid.” -Wikipedia

Photorealism

Photorealism is the genre of painting based on making a painting from the use of a photograph. The term is primarily applied to paintings from the United States art movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s.” -Wikipedia

Representational Art

Representation describes the signs that stand in for and take the place of something else. It is through representation people know and understand the world and reality through the act of naming it. Signs are manipulated in order to make sense of the world.
For many philosophers, both ancient and modern, man is regarded as the "representational animal" or homo symbolicum, the creature whose distinct character is the creation and the manipulation of signs – things that "stand for" or "take the place of" something else.
Representation has been associated with aesthetics (art) and semiotics (signs). Mitchell says "representation is an extremely elastic notion, which extends all the way from a stone representing a man to a novel representing the day in the life of several Dubliners".
The term representation carries a range of meanings and interpretations. In literary theory representation is commonly defined in three ways.
1. To look like or resemble
2. To stand in for something or someone
3. To present a second time to re-present

Representation began with early literary theory in the ideas of Plato and Aristotle, and has evolved into a significant component of language, Saussurian and communication studies.
Defining representation
The most common and naïve perception about literature is that it is a "representation of life". Representation has always played a central role in understanding literature.
The first definition is closely related to the medium, suggesting that representation functions through reproductions, or by possessing the likeness of an object. Representations, according to this definition, can be reproduced an incalculable number of times. Paintings for example, have been reproduced in this way. The majority of Western society will have, at some point in their lives, come across an image of Da Vinci’s famous painting, the Mona Lisa. However, very few of those people will have witnessed the painting in physical reality. It is as a result of their reproductive ability that representations, such as reproductions of the Mona Lisa, become accessible to the masses and work to stand between "the real" and the audience or spectator.” -Wikipedia
